Obituary of Marilynn H. Peterson

Please share a memory of Marilynn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

BALLSTON SPA: Marilynn H. Peterson died peacefully in her sleep on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, at the age of 96.

She was the widow of Rev. Thomas D. Peterson, who predeceased her on November 9, 2005.

Marilynn was a member of the Ballston Spa United Methodist Church.  She held a B.S. in religious drama from Scarritt College (1950) and a master’s degree in library science from SUNY, Albany (1970).  She oversaw libraries for several Army bases in Germany (then West Germany) and was a librarian/media specialist for the Troy School District until her retirement.  After retirement she donated many hours of volunteer time to the Saratoga Hospital Medical library and counselled cancer patients, and oversaw the library at Prestwick Chase.  She delighted in live music, drama, and dance.  Marilynn was gracious, gentle and kind, but tenacious in and insistent that all individuals be treated with respect and understanding.  Those who miss her know that she left friends wherever she lived and worked and was a blessing to all.

The grieving includes their children, Lynn P. Martin (James) and their son Jared S. Martin (Kaitlin), and Thomas W. Peterson (Linda) and their children, Lauren T. Peterson and Thomas P. Peterson.

Special thanks to Prestwick Chase where she lived for 16 happy years, Home of the Good Shepherd and Hospice, all of whose people treated her with the utmost care and respect.

A memorial service will be held later this spring.
